Gold Pictures’ Commits ‘SYN,’ Supernatural Crime Thriller, to Production Diversity
Universal City, CA - Gold Pictures announced that it has joined forces with sci-fi/fantasy scribe and visual effects guru, Grant Boucher, to launch a one hour supernatural crime thriller called “SYN.” The series, set in modern day Los Angeles, follows detective Allison Dumond, chosen by two warring immortal forces as the pawn whose fate will determine the future of all mankind.
“SYN” will be the first project to fulfill Gold Pictures’ commitment toward developing greater diversity within the entertainment industry by utilizing a crew consisting predominantly of women and minorities.
“We are excited about the opportunity ‘SYN’ presents for us to collaborate with some very talented people and to launch a show that offers a unique perspective on sin and virtue in a contemporary urban setting,” said Jeff Maynard, producer, Gold Pictures. “We're taking the traditional crime show to a whole new level by infusing the kind of high-stakes drama that will actually move -- as well as scare the hell out of -- the audience."
“SYN” is the brainchild of Boucher, an Emmy Award winning visual effects pioneer (Titanic, Dogma, Big Daddy, Star Trek: Voyager, seaQuest DSV, Blues Clues) who just completed the sale of his first major feature screenplay before penning the SYN series pilot. His impressive science-fiction credentials include writing and designing the Star Wars Galaxy Guide for Lucasfilm, the character design bible for the Star Wars franchise that has sold over 10 million copies worldwide.
“Grant’s work commands attention. His style is bold, original and psychologically intriguing,” explains director Jenni Gold, founder of Gold Pictures. “His pioneering experience with visual effects intensive television allowed him to create a mythically rooted series from the ground up that would stress story and character while minimizing post-production costs. Together, we created a stylized approach to SYN that we believe redefines 'fast, edgy, character-driven' television.”
”When I heard about Gold Pictures' plan to champion increased diversity in front of and behind the camera, I knew instantly that SYN was exactly what they were looking for,” adds Boucher. “Jenni’s Hitchcock-inspired directorial style is a perfect match for SYN’s dark themes and challenging subject matter.”
Gold Pictures is currently prepping the show's pilot episode, “Black & White,” which will begin filming this winter in the Los Angeles area with local crew and talent.
